SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT
The council, has identified the problem of garbage collection and disposal as a main threat to the environment. This has been so because the City's garbage were dumped heedlessly at the dumping area and a day of garbage not collected create a hill of smelly and attracts disease carrier such as flies. Simply put, garbage collection has been the perennial problem of the barangay and is always the gist of every regular meeting of the Council.
Fortunately, this problem was solved by a stroke of fate:
The University of Saint La Salle, through its Community Extension Program (SEP) Office, has chosen Barangay 7 as its pilot barangay for the implementation of Solid Waste Management project. Already, several seminar, training and workshop has been attended by Barangay Officials conducted by the said office to educate us of the Solid Waste Management. Recently, a 10-man delegation led by Punong Barangay Subiate went on a one-week long educational trip to Manila, and Cavite to observe Solid Waste Management project being implemented in some barangays at the above-mentioned place.
On May 24, 2003 at 6 pm, the barangay held an assembly at the Purok Magnolia Basketball Court attended by the residents to inform them of the benefits and the forthcoming implementation of solid waste management in the barangay and urge them their cooperation in the proper segregation and identification of wastes as well as the systematized garbage collection by the designated barangay officials.
A 400 sq. meter site has been chosen at 13th Street to be the composting and segregation site for the wastes of the Barangay. Foreign experts has been giving technical assistance to the barangay for proper composting and management of the site to avoid/prevent odor and other nuisance to the nearby residents.
